Frequently asked questions
What is collagen?
Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It’s the multi-functional protein that holds everything together. It provides strength and structure to our joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, cartilage, tissue and bones and it has regenerative and reparative qualities which is why it is so important for all of us.
Who needs collagen?
There are 5 main causes for a collagen deficiency.
1. Age. From our early twenties our bodies produce less and less collagen every year. 1 to 2 % per year.
2. Exercise. The more we exercise, the more we deplete our natural collagen levels.
3. Sun. The more we are exposed to sun, the more our collagen levels are depleted.
4. Smoking. Smoking has a huge effect on our natural collagen levels. The more you smoke and the longer you have smoked for determines how bad your collagen deficiency is.
5. Sugar. Sugar in our diet in all forms causes a natural deficiency of collagen in our bodies.
So as you can see, we all need collagen even if we’re not elite, competing athletes.
